Republic built 15,677 P-47 Thunderbolts
First flown on May 6th, 1941
Designed as a High Performance Fighter/Bomber
P-47s logged almost 2 million flight hours during WWII.
Flown by the Air Forces of Brazil, England, France, Mexico & the Soviet Union.
Following WWII, the P-47 continued to serve for 9 more years in the U.S. flown by the Air National Guard.
It continued to serve for many years with the air forces of over 15 nations around the world.
There are 9 P-47 Thunderbolts that are still airworthy.
